It is a translation of a couple’s identity — their taste, their values, their way of seeing beauty together. For Cecilia Paganini, founder of La Fiorellaia, floral design is the emotional architecture that holds all these elements in place. Through her vision, flowers become narrative tools, shaping atmospheres and elevating moments with intention, harmony and a deeply personal touch.

Where Every Wedding Begins

Before discussing flowers, palettes or styles, Cecilia begins each project with understanding. The first step is not aesthetic — it is relational. “It’s not just one thing. When a couple approaches La Fiorellaia, I always fill out a precise file with a series of information: the size of the event and the venue, the number of guests, their aesthetic taste, their color preferences, the style of the ceremony, and even the smallest details that may seem insignificant but actually make the difference. This allows us to design an event that is coherent, tailor-made and perfectly aligned with what they desire.”

This structured yet sensitive approach is what allows her to design florals that feel personal rather than generic. It ensures that every choice — from a single stem to a large-scale installation — reflects the couple’s world.

The Personality of the Couple as Creative Compass

For Cecilia, personality is not an accessory. It is the foundation of every wedding. “A lot. Their wedding must represent them: every choice, from the flowers to the colors to the arrangement of elements, must reflect their story, their character and their aspirations.”

The goal is not simply to create something beautiful, but something truthful. Something that feels like them.

This is where La Fiorellaia’s emotional intelligence enters the process. The floral design becomes a portrait — not of individuals, but of a bond.

Trends Shaped by Authenticity and Sustainability

Wedding florals evolve just like fashion, and Cecilia observes shifts that reflect broader environmental awareness. “We are seeing a strong return to more natural and spontaneous designs, due to the growing sensitivity around sustainability. Aerial arrangements with cascading flowers, abundant and vertical floral installations, mixes of botanical elements with foliage and natural textures.”

Alongside this trend toward naturalism, she notes a rising interest in highly structured compositions. “At the same time, interest is growing in massed compositions featuring botanical materials. They are characterized by strong attention to form and the use of very few floral or vegetal varieties to emphasize shape through aesthetic cleanliness — something that would be lost with too many varieties combined.”

The result is a dual movement: organic abundance on one side, minimalist sculptural forms on the other — both rooted in intentionality.

Common Mistakes Couples Make When Choosing Florals

Cecilia has witnessed many wedding preparations, and one recurring error relates to seasonality. “A common mistake I see is ignoring seasonality. Wanting to use flowers out of season with the expectation that they will have the same impact and quality as seasonal ones often leads to disappointment.”

Another frequent oversight lies in context. “Sometimes couples underestimate the importance of balance between flowers, location and light. A ‘dull’ flower or a flower placed out of context can compromise even a well-designed arrangement.”

In her philosophy, the beauty of a flower is relational: it depends on how it lives within its surroundings.

The Time Required for Thoughtful Floral Design

Much like love, wedding design cannot be rushed. “It depends on the size of the wedding and the creativity required. Each project is unique. A few weeks may be enough for a simple and intimate event, but for a complex installation with floral scenography and intricate structures, months of planning, coordination and attention to detail may be necessary.”

The unseen work — the preparation, the coordination, the logistics — is what allows the visible beauty to appear effortless.

A Wedding That Pushed Creative Boundaries

Among the many weddings she has designed, one remains especially significant for its ambition and emotional weight. “The Revi and Yam wedding in Rome was one of the most ambitious. For that ceremony, we used 3,000 white roses, each opened by hand. The result was an open-air aisle that felt romantic, modern and rigorous at the same time. The reception featured a meticulously curated installation, a refined balance between thousands of flowers, lights, table settings and the villa’s architecture. It was a major work of harmonization between all elements to create an environment that truly told their uniqueness.”

This wedding embodies her philosophy perfectly: technique, emotion and storytelling woven together.

Preparing for the Unexpected

No matter how meticulously a wedding is planned, last-minute surprises can happen. Cecilia approaches unpredictability with readiness, not panic. “With an organized and adequate structure, with experience and with an eye always attentive to the flow of the wedding. Every detail is planned in advance, but I know that something can always happen. This is why I always prepare a ‘plan B,’ I supervise every phase, I try to anticipate preparations whenever possible and I maintain flexibility to intervene quickly if needed.”

Professionalism, in her world, is not rigid — it is adaptive.

What Truly Makes the Difference

When asked what elevates a wedding from beautiful to unforgettable, Cecilia identifies two forces. “Two things: design capacity and overall vision, and creativity. The ability to design every detail while thinking about how each element interacts with the others, and the creativity that makes each wedding a unique event.”

Then she adds a layer of reassurance: “Our truth is the identity of La Fiorellaia: our ability to truly distinguish one wedding from any other. One thing I want to add is the security that a structured supplier like us can offer, as well as being a guarantee of the final result.”

In the world of wedding florals, emotion and structure walk hand in hand. And Cecilia’s work proves that when these forces meet, flowers become more than decoration: they become memory.
